Alright – you asked, so you shall receive! I’ve been getting so many messages asking which holistic and integrative books I’ve been reading when it comes to cancer. Most of you may know that this blog has been dedicated to fashion inspiration. Since my breast cancer diagnosis back in April of 2022, I’ve begun to incorporate more and more cancer-related content into my Instagram content and plan to do the same with my blog. My hope is that this information finds someone who is searching for answers and integrative means to cancer treatment. For my favorite holistic and integrative cancer books, keep reading below!
Cancer Free – Your Guide to Gentle, Non-Toxic Healing by Bill Henderson
Bill Henderson’s Book – Cancer Free, is a book that discusses over 140 web sites and dozens of other books and newsletters that can used to expand your knowledge of natural cancer treatment. “Cancer is not a disease,” says Bill Henderson. “It is a reaction to what your body has experienced. Reverse those causes and the cancer goes away. Continue what you did to reverse it and it stays away.” Bill Henderson explains that there are four common characteristics of all cancers. These have been known since the 1920’s: 1. Low oxygen uptake by the cells. 2. A weak immune system. 3. Toxins — usually caused by diet and dental work. 4. Acidity — again, usually caused by diet, as well as stress and dental work. This book is well worth the read to further understand natural treatments for cancer.
Radical Remission – Surviving Cancer Against All Odds by Kelly A. Turner
Kelly Turner, Ph.D., a researcher and psychotherapist who specializes in integrative oncology, shares her research on over a thousand cases of Radical Remission—people who have defied a serious or even terminal cancer diagnosis with a complete reversal of the disease. The results of this study, which focused on seventy-five factors, include astounding insights of the nine key factors that Dr. Turner found among nearly every Radical Remission survivor she has studied and an explanation of how the reader can put these practices to work in his or her own life. Encompassing diet, stress, emotions, spirituality, and other factors that profoundly affect our health and well-being, Kelly Turner’s discussion of how our choices can cause the seemingly miraculous to happen will open your eyes to what is possible when it comes to lasting healing. This book provided me real-life hope for taking back the control over my cancer.
How To Starve Cancer by Jane McLelland
Jane McLelland’s book – How To Starve Cancer – was very intriguing to me. She details her own experience with cancer, and how off-label drugs eventually became the pathway to her remission by starving cancer of it’s pathways. Written in a native British tongue, the story that Jane details is one of hope and empowerment. Here is a snip from the Amazon review: This page-turning inspirational read is updated with a new ‘Metro Map’, Jane’s unique and revolutionary route map to starving cancer. A glossary and index will also be included. Written in two sections, in Part 1 Jane intertwines her remarkable life story of ‘terminal cancer’ to full recovery, describing how she discovered a unique cocktail of off label drugs (drugs usually prescribed for other conditions) and supplements that effectively starve the cancer stem cell, the cell left behind by conventional treatment. Treatment for the stem cell is hailed as the Holy Grail, so this book plugs the missing piece into why we do not have a cure for cancer. Lead cancer researchers at top oncology centers are now using this book as a guide and Jane has a huge following of tens of thousands on Facebook. Testimonials abound from happy and delighted recovered patients and from oncologists who use her methods.
Chris Beat Cancer – A Comprehensive Plan For Healing Naturally by Chris Wark
Most people in the holistic or integrative field of cancer treatment know who Chris Wark is, and for good reason. After his own cancer diagnosis in the early 2000’s, Chris went on to adapt an all-natural approach to his post cancer treatment – radical diet and lifestyle changes; and mental, emotional, and spiritual healing, as well as advanced integrative therapies. This book is packed with an emotional punch and extensive healing solutions. Chris Beat Cancer will inspire and guide you on your own journey toward wellness.
The Truth About Cancer – What You Need To Know About Cancer’s History, Treatment and Prevention by TY M. Bollinger
This was a quick read for me – I found myself intrigued by Ty’s passion about unconventional cancer therapies and about the conventional cancer treatment business in general. Here is a snip from the book’s review on Amazon:
Bollinger, whose October 2015 documentary miniseries The Truth about Cancer: A Global Quest has received over five million views to date, explains that there are many methods we can access to treat and prevent cancer – we just don’t know about them. The book delves into the history of medicine – all the way back to Hippocrates’s credo of “do no harm” – as well as up-to-the-minute research that proves the efficacy of dozens of advanced cancer treatments being used around the globe. Bollinger arms listeners with essential, sometimes startling information about:
- The history and politics of cancer
- The takeover of medical education by special interests and for-profit agendas
- How some life-saving treatments have been kept from the public – and why
- Treatment options that go well beyond chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery
“To us this is not a business, it’s a mission,” he explains. “We’re on a mission to save the world.”
Outside The Box Cancer Therapies by Dr. Mark Stengler and Dr. Paul Anderson
Outside The Box Cancer Therapies discusses the importance of integrative therapies to treating cancer. Written by two physicians, the book initially focuses on case histories of patients battling cancer, and how integrative approaches such as IV ozone, high-dose vitamin C and supplements help many patients ease the side effects of conventional treatments. The book also has a chapter on foods and supplements that are known to prevent and fight cancer, along with a chapter on protection and recovery from surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. There is also a chapter on intravenous and injection therapies.
Cancer Free With Food by Liana Werner-Gray
This book has fast become one of my favorites. In Liana Werner-Gray’s book Cancer Free With Food, she explains how food can be medicine and has gathered the best foods for various types of cancer, along with 195 simple and tested recipes created to boost your immune system and promote healing. Designed to work on their own or in conjunction with other therapies, these healthy and appealing meals can also be tailored for a gluten-free, keto, vegan, and paleo diet. I reference this book often, and have incorporated many of her recipes into our family’s diet.
Beat Cancer Kitchen – Deliciously Simple Plant-Based Anticancer Recipes by Chris + Micah Wark
This was the first book I purchased after my own breast cancer diagnosis (1 day after, to be exact), because it’s packed with recipes using fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains, herbs, and spices that are the foundational ingredients of Chris’s anticancer diet. Complete with tips for diet optimization, this cookbook will definitely get you in the Beat Cancer Mindset and guide you onto the road to wellness.
Anti-Cancer: A New Way Of Life by David Servan-Schreiber
This book is one of the first books I read back when my dad was diagnosed with throat and esophageal cancer back in 2009. It continues to be a great source of information as I navigate my own cancer journey. Here is a snip from the Amazon review: Anticancer is at once the moving story of one doctor’s inner and outer search for wellness and a radical exposition of the roles that lifestyle, environment, and trauma play in our health. Drawing on the latest research in integrative medicine that blends conventional and alternative approaches, Servan-Schreiber concisely explains what makes cancer cells thrive, what inhibits them, and how we can empower ourselves to prevent their growth. His advice details how to develop a science-based anticancer diet (and the small changes that can make a big difference); how to reap the benefits of exercise, yoga, and meditation; which toxic, unsafe products to replace in your home; and how to stave off the effects of helplessness and unhealed wounds to regain balance.
